I broke down....

And ordered a Doppler today. I bought if off of Amazon.com along with the ultrasound gel. I was going back and forth about getting one, and I think it's going to be a good investment until I can start to feel discernible movement. It has an LED display which counts the beats per minute, and a speaker so DH can listen along with me.

I paid for express shipping, so it should arrive on Friday. I've been feeling kind of unsettled lately, so I'm hoping that the Doppler will help put me at ease.

I belong to a pregnancy forum, and so many ladies on there are experiencing miscarriages. It just breaks my heart. It also makes me worry about my pregnancy even more.

My heart feels so heavy for Rebecca. She recently had an ultrasound which showed her that her baby had passed.

I feel so down today so I'm glad I chose today to purchase the Doppler, it gives me something to look forward to, since my next doctors appointment isn't for another two and a half weeks.

13 Weeks!

How far along? 13 weeks (time is flying by!!!)

Total weight gain/loss: Still down, I'm not sure how much I lost.

Sleep: I still crave sleep, but I can function off of less. Before I was a total zombie if I didn't sleep for like 12 hours a day.

Food cravings: None this week, my aversions have come back and I still struggle with food.

Best moment this week: Showing everyone our latest ultrasound picture!

Movement: I don't know what I was feeling these past few days, I'll chalk it up to indigestion. So, no??

Labor Signs: Nothing here, baby's still baking.

Belly Button in or out? In, and I have a feeling it will be a LONG time before it pops out.

What I miss: Sometimes, a glass of wine. Yesterday we were in the penthouse of some luxury condominiums watching a fireworks show, and there was free food and drinks. It would have been SO nice to be able to have a glass of wine. But I have such a good reason not to drink!

What I am looking forward to: My belly getting bigger.

Milestones: One week closer to the 2nd trimester! (I think. LOL! My pregnancy books say the 2nd tri starts at week 14, but some people say it's week 13)

I meant to include a belly pic this week, I'll try to have my husband take one for me tonight...

Flutters? Gas? What is this?

I've been craving huge cups of ice water lately. I have to keep a huge cup by my bed so when I wake up to pee I can sip before I get back in bed. Yesterday, I was drinking water while sitting on the couch, and a few minutes afterwards I felt this weird flutter type feeling in my lower stomach. I dismissed it as gas bubbles, and went on with my day. I noticed it again yesterday evening when I got back in bed, and thought it was weird. I mean, drinking water never gives me gas, and the feeling is so low that it doesn't seem like it's the water settling in my stomach.

So I don't know what this is. Every single book that I've read states that it's too early to feel movement. Even if I went by my last ultrasound date, which would put me at 13w2d today.

Even now, I'm at work, and I'm drinking water and about 10 minutes later I felt the same flutters as last night and yesterday afternoon.

Am I crazy? Gassy? I don't get it.

Rude comment/Parenting style

Since I decided to tell people about my pregnancy, I've been surprised to receive a few negative comments. One of my coworkers actually frowned at me while I was proudly showing her my latest ultrasound picture, and then proceeded to lecture me about "babies having babies", and that young people only have children because they think it's cute.

She couldn't have been more wrong, and my feelings were very hurt by her statement. My husband and I decided to have children because we love each other, and we love children. We waited until we were married for 3 years before even thinking about trying to conceive. We both have stable jobs, good incomes, live in a safe neighborhood, etc.

My husband and I discussed what type of parenting style we would like to have long before I was pregnant. We're sort of granola in a way. I plan on cloth diapering, my husband is looking up how to make baby food, we are going to co-sleep, and baby wear, and I would love to have a natural delivery. My mom was very hands on with me and my siblings. My husband's parents were not. We both agree that we want our child to know that he or she is very loved, and feel safe, yet have very clear boundaries.

We don't plan on sitting our children in front of the TV, and feeding them McDonald's every day. We will encourage them to use their imagination, play outside, eat healthy food, be kind to others, and show respect.

When I explained this to my coworker, she seemed shocked, as if I were speaking a foreign language. Just because I'll only be 24 when my child is born, that doesn't mean that I'm ill equipped to parent. And I really don't think that 24 is considered 'too young' to have children.

I don't like when people assume things, it's not fair. I had a situation when I had my first ultrasound where the technician asked me if I planned my pregnancy. Of course I said, "Yes". She raised her eyebrow and had a funny look on her face. I asked her why, and she said that I should have gotten married first. I told her that I had been married for almost four years, and that my husband was in the waiting room. After the ultrasound was completed, she gave me a towel so I could clean myself up, and then disappeared. Later, I found out that she had went into the waiting room, and asked my husband what his last name was!! So I guess she thought I was lying.

My husband and I both look young for our ages. People usually think we're teenagers, so I try to be more understand when situations like this arise. But it still irritates me.

I'm not too naive to think that our lives won't change drastically once our child is born. I don't expect things to be necessarily "easy". I know there will be trying times, and that we'll have to work together as a team. I don't have any preconceived notions. I have a plan, but just like most plans, I know that things will come up and our plan may have to change. I may not be able to breastfeed for some reason, I may require a c-section during delivery, who knows what could happen. Anything is possible.

I do know that I want to be as informed as possible. I am reading about early childhood development, and birthing styles and techniques. I am also reading about breastfeeding and different options as far as holding the baby and getting him or her to latch properly. Knowledge is powerful. And I want to feel empowered for the remainder of my pregnancy, and as I raise my child.

A coworker induced my nausea...

My nausea came back with a vengeance today. I'm already fighting a cold/sore throat, and now I feel like I'm going to lose my lunch.

It all started with one of my coworkers. How, you may ask? Well, his breath. Seriously, he has the worst breath I have ever smelled. And it was bad before I was pregnant, so now that my lovely "heightened sense of smell" is back, his breath smells worse than ever. It's not like I got a whiff, oh no, I walked out into the hallway, and he was standing talking to another employee. The entire hallway smelled like his poisonous breath. I held my breath and hopped on the elevator. Once I was inside, I gasped for air, only to find that his breath had made it's way into the elevator! OMG, I felt like I was going to die. Not only that, but I was so quick to get away from the stench that I was heading up instead of down on the elevator, causing me to suffer even longer.

I had a taste for some soup, so my coworker (not the one with the bad breath) and I decided to go to Quiznos. The line was out the door, and I had to use the restroom so we decided we could go to Subway instead. We walked in, and I almost passed out. It smelled like vomit in there. I literally ran out, covering my mouth with tears in my eyes. I'm not sure what went wrong in there... I did eventually find something to eat, but my appetite was ruined by the trauma my nasal passages had already endured. And to make matters worse, who was waiting for me at my desk when I returned? Yup, you guessed it. My dragon breath coworker. What did I do? I looked at him, and turned around. There was no way I could talk to him without losing it. So I went in the opposite direction and ate my lunch at an empty cubicle.

I still feel queasy, hopefully it'll ease soon. Everyone knows that his breath stinks. It might just take this queasy, hormonal, highly sensitive pregnant woman to tell him to his face. I can't endure that for another 6 months, I just can't!!!

A cold?

Earlier today, I was thinking how fortunate I am to have not been sick (well, other than morning sickness) during my pregnancy. I must have jinxed myself because at work I started feeling ill.

Now, I'm on the couch, with a sore throat, headache, and stuffy nose. Ugh. This feels terrible.

I've tried popsicles, decaffeinated tea, and hot water with lemon. None of them have truly brought me any relief. Hopefully I'll start to feel better in the morning.

I do plan on calling the nurse in the morning, just in case. I want to see if there is anything different that I can take that may help me recover faster.

The "cat" is officially out of the bag...

I was still having some residual spotting Monday night, so I called off work yesterday. My supervisor seemed really concerned about me, so I decided to spill the beans. She was SO supportive. It really made me feel a lot better. Matter of fact, everyone that I've told has been super supportive.

Although I had told her, I still had one more person to tell.... My boss... Yeah, I have a supervisor and a boss. It's kind of confusing, but I work for one person (my boss) and report to another person (my supervisor). Why? I have no clue, it's just part of the position.

Anyways, I was so nervous last night to come to work today. I was actually dreading it. I couldn't sleep, I felt stressed, I was a mess. Not because I didn't think that he would understand, but I just felt weird about it. I'm not sure why.

This morning, I came in and decided to just get it over with. We talked about my nephews coming to visit, and then I went in his office with my latest ultrasound picture, and spilled the beans. Oh my, he was beaming!! He was so happy for me, I thought he was going to jump out of his chair. We then talked about his wife, and her pregnancies. It was a very uplifting conversation.

So now that the cat is out of the bag at work, I just need Baby V to keep on baking!

A first for me....

I'm still laughing about this. I was sleeping, and I mean totally knocked out. I remember dreaming about wanting ice cream, so in my dream I drove to Dairy Queen. Once there, I ordered like 10 items, but the only one I remember is the hot fudge sundae, and oh it was delicious!

The dream woke me up out of my sleep!!! And what did I do? I went straight to the freezer, and I am now eating Cookies & Cream ice cream, out of the tub while watching TV and reading blogs. Wow! That was the first time I have EVER woke up out of my sleep to indulge in a craving.

I just had to write this down for future reference.

12 weeks!! (WOO-HOO!!!!!!!!!!!)

How far along? 12 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Total weight gain/loss: down 7 lbs (My doc didn't seem that concerned, but I'm trying to eat more frequently.)

Sleep: I don't think I'm as tired as I was previously, but still prefer a few naps if I can get them in.

Food cravings: Still salt! And hot sauce (which has TONS of sodium). And oddly, waffles.

Best moment this week:
1. Hearing my baby's heartbeat on the doppler, 166 bpm. It was amazing!
2. Seeing Baby V during a surprise ultrasound. WOW! The baby is still so small, but was moving all around punching and kicking. I'm so in love!

Movement: I know for sure that Baby V is moving, but can't feel it yet. I can't wait for the day!

Gender: Still thinking boy...

Labor Signs: Nothing here, baby's still baking.

Belly Button in or out? Still in. I think it would be weird for me to have a mini-bump with my belly button poking out. LOL!

What I miss: Nothing. I am so happy and content right now. Everything is going well, and I couldn't be more thankful.

What I am looking forward to: Finding out the sex of our little one. Only about 6 more weeks. I also can't wait to get a bigger bump, and feel movement.

Milestones: Hitting 12 weeks. I am officially THREE MONTHS PREGNANT!!! Yay!!!

Weekly Wisdom: Sometimes spotting after sex is normal. It freaked me out, but thank goodness the baby is doing great.

Grocery shopping

Pregnant women should be banned from grocery stores. Well... maybe I should just be banned. My husband and I went to the grocery store, because we had been neglecting to do so for awhile. What did we come home with? Well, thanks to me, we bought the following items:

Tortilla chips
Salsa
Juice
Pickles
Ice cream
Waffles
Milk

Doesn't that grocery list sound great? LOL! I've been craving pickles and waffles for some reason, and I had chips and salsa yesterday so I thought I'd buy some. And then I found myself in the ice cream isle, drooling over the tub of cookies and cream.

I'm sure my cravings will only get worse as I progress throughout this pregnancy. Oh dear!
